Sierra Blanca, mountain range, which forms a belt around Marbella, causing its pleasant climate. And Marbella has always lived under the protection of its mountains. Climbing La Concha (1215 m) has become a challenge for both the inhabitants of Marbella and the numerous tourists.

We offer to accompany you on several trails, of different difficulty and duration. The POZUELO route, a circular route of 5,4 km, is an easy route, with elevation about 300 m. It will take us to the northern slope of the Sierra Blanca with spectacular views towards Pico Torrecilla in the Sierra de las Nieves. The path is populated with large holm oaks and pinsapos (endemic Andalusian pine), which goes from scattered specimens to a continuous forest mass. The Pinsapar del Pozuelo, although of small dimensions, serves as an example of native flora of Andalusia.

If there is any distinctive of Sierra Blanca that is definitively the CRUZ DE JUANAR, an important symbol and legend around it. The tradition of climbing every 1st May to celebrate a mass at the top remains in place among the population. And it is worth climbing : at your feet you reach to see whole south face of the mountains with the bay of Marbella. Route is linear, about 3 km, with elevation about 250 m.

Both the Pozuelo route and the Juanar route are easy, feasible for children. But you have to keep in mind, that in the mountains there are numerous risk factors such as lack of water, steep slopes, sunstroke, lack of shade in the high areas and abundant thorny vegetation. Plenty of water should be provided especially in summer, avoid hottest hours and wear the right footwear. No flip flops.

The star route of Sierra Blanca is definitively route of  LA CONCHA. It is a linear route, difficult, about 7,6 km long and lasting about 6 hours with return way. It requires a fairly developped participant´s physical background. Arriving at the top with its 1215 m we will contemplate the unforgettable panorama of the bay of Marbella, Puerto Banús, hydroelectric dam of Istán, Río Verde valley with the village of Benahavís, Gibraltar and Africa. It deserves the efforts…
